About Philip Carnelley

Philip Carnelley has been involved in the IT industry for almost 30 years – as software developer, project manager and industry analyst.

Like many people of a certain age, he started out in IT with ICL. His career as a software developer and consultant embraced engineering, manufacturing and technology companies and included Oracle and the late-lamented GEC.

As an industry analyst he worked with the Gartner Group and then Ovum, where he became one of the best known analysts of the European software industry, researching the software development, business applications, database, and business intelligence markets. He also became the principal software analyst for the Ovum Holway research business covering the UK software and services markets.

Following a period researching and consulting on company best practices and processes with benchmarking consultancy, The Hackett Group, he joined TechMarketView in 2009 as a Research Director. Philip has particular responsibility for the software sector and is responsible for TechMarketView’s SoftwareViews research stream.
