*NEW RESEARCH* Atos: Investing in big data & analytics

Tom Swanson - Atos, Chief Digital OfficerAtos logoMany companies are launching initiatives to exploit big data & analytics opportunities. However, the investment required by any company to embark on a Big Data or Analytics project - in infrastructure, skilled data scientists and software - is often very significant. At the same time, the realisable benefits from one particular use case, marketing initiative or potential operational improvement are usually insufficient to generate a positive return. Too often the projects are aimed at a tactical objective, rather than aimed at fundamentally improving the strategic positioning of a company.

Since April of this year, Atos has been quietly marketing the first fruits of a year-long joint project to develop an approach to “industrial strength” data analytics that addresses these underlying problems. Recently, TechMarketView met with the Atos team responsible for developing the company’s approach to “industrial-strength” big data & analytics. Atos representatives included Ursula Morgenstern (then UK&I CEO), Tom Swanson (Chief Digital Officer, pictured); and Andrew Stevenson (Director of Big Data & Analytics, Canopy). In this CompanyViews research note – Atos: Investing in big data & analytics - we assess Atos’ approach in the context of market developments and the competitive environment.
