Lofelt raises $5.4m for haptics

LofeltHaptic and touchless technology is an area we believe has massive potential across a wide range of applications.

Lofelt, is the latest start-up in this space to take on funding raising $5.4m in Series A funding. Leading this round is Wolfman. One, with participation from Q Venture Partners, Coparion, and previous backer Horizons Ventures. Lofelt will use the funding to expand its Berlin-based engineering team and accelerate product development.

Lofelt produces haptic technology for use in a range of products — including gaming, AR, VR, automobile, toys, medical, and entertainment. It is also behind the Basslet, a watch-styled “subwoofer” that vibrates to create a sub bass-like sensation used in conjunction with headphones.

Haptics is an area in which the UK has real strength and we have covered Little British Battler Ultrahaptics (LBB Ultrahaptics raises £18m) over the last year or so. Bristol based Ultrahaptics has patented haptics technology using ultrasound to project sensations directly onto your hand so you might interact with virtual objects in mid-air. Users can ‘feel’ touch-less buttons, get feedback for mid-air gestures or interact with virtual objects and is designed for environments where precision is required.

Since its most recent round of funding in May, Ultrahaptics has expanded its operation following existing customers into the United States and opened a Palo Alto office this September. The next step looks like expansion of its sales operation with the appointment of David Hearne as Vice President of Sales earlier this month.
