There was a small bit of good news for educational IT supplier RM at the end of last week, which we didn’t get a chance to comment on at the time. It was appointed preferred bidder on a £6.8m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) contract with Hertfordshire County Council under which it will supply ICT services to three schools. The schools in question are the ‘sample’ projects from Hertfordshire’s BSF programme which were listed as ‘for discussion’ on the Department for Education’s now infamous list on the future of school capital projects (see for example BSF cuts slash £3.5b from supplier hopes). The contract isn’t exactly huge, but ‘every little helps’ as they say. And, as suppliers anxiously await the outcome of the James Review into the school building and refurbishment programme, it’s encouraging that at least some ‘sample’ BSF schools are being allocated funding.
