Cognizant’s shopping spree continues

LogoCognizant’s acquisitive appetites show no signs of diminishing with the advent of the New Year. The announcements yesterday of the company’s intentions to purchase both ServiceNow consultancy Linium and Servian, an Australian data and analytics specialist, will bring the number of businesses bought by the India-centric services major over the last twelve months to fourteen. Details of the financial terms of the deals have not been disclosed, but the combined price paid that will be paid for the two firms is estimated to be $300m.

US-based Linium is the ServiceNow practice of Ness Digital Engineering, a twenty year-old broad-based IT services business. Through the acquisition 150 personnel located in North America, India and the UK will join Cognizant. Their skills encompass not only digital platform development and management services capabilities, but also vertical industry expertise in the telecommunications, insurance, and technology sectors. The purchase will further bolster Cognizant’s already substantial, global contingent of ServiceNow specialist staff.

The acquisition of Sydney-HQ’d Servian will, on the other hand, boost significantly Cognizant’s presence in Australia and New Zealand.  Founded in 2008, Servian has worked with more than 190 major companies in ANZ in the banking, telecommunications, insurance, retail, and government sectors. The firm brings 500 technology and consulting professionals to Cognizant, doubling the size of company's cloud and data team in the region.

As we noted in our coverage yesterday of Cognizant’s entry into the world of Formula 1 (see here), this is a company moving ahead with pace and purpose. The announcement of its next acquisition is unlikely to be too long in coming.
