Juniper Education refinancing to support growth

Juniper Education logoJuniper Education has undertaken a significant refinancing with Muzinich & Co joining existing lender Clydesdale Bank to help bolster the company's acquisition funds to £60m.

Horizon Capital created Juniper Education when it acquired EES for Schools as a buy-and-build platform investment in July 2019 (see Juniper growth on the Horizon). The company has rapidly expanded through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions, including OTrack (October 2019), Classroom Monitor (January 2020), Maze Education (January 2020), Pupil Asset (June 2020), FS4S (September 2020) and SISRA (November 2020).

The school software market remains fragmented, but as we discussed in our recent UK Education Supplier & Market Analysis report, it has been undergoing a period of consolidation. An increasing number of suppliers now have the financial backing and market channels to expand. Juniper’s refinancing arrangement should ensure it has the ability to compete in this increasingly competitive sector. With Capita agreeing to sell its Education Software Solutions (ESS) business and The Key acquiring Arbor Education at the end of last year, 2021 is set to be a pivotal year in school software.
