Zapnito zaps more dosh for community sharing

logoWhen I last looked at London-based start-up, Zapnito back in 2016, I sized it up as ‘a souped-up content management system on a mission, the mission being to sell content and expertise’ (see Zapnito zaps angels to share expertise).

The company seems to have undertaken a massive ‘pivot’ since then, and Zapnito now bills itself as a ‘community software platform’ where you can launch your own branded communities (aka user forums). As a result (I assume), Zapnito has completed its largest funding to date, raising £3.3m in a Series A round led by Octopus Ventures.

Founded in 2013, ‘new’ Zapito is still firmly focused on the media publishing sector, where founder Charles Thiede spent his formative years. He aims to use the dosh to push further into the virtual events market as well as the usual ‘go further, faster’.

Thiede is battling on multiple fronts. There are just loads of community software platforms in the market and I have no idea how you choose between them. Perhaps Zapnito’s particular focus on the media industry will help differentiation to a degree. Then there’s all the ‘virtual event’ players to contend with.

In the end, as I so frequently say, it will come down to who can get their voice heard above the din of the market.
