Backers seed Climate X to grow climate change solution

logoClimate change is a hot topic, if you’ll permit me the weak pun, and therefore a theme attracting various start-ups addressing the issue from different viewpoints.

One such is London-based Climate X, which is developing a platform to predict how climate change will impact properties, assets or infrastructure under different scenarios.

Apparently founded on New Year’s Eve 2020 (Source: CrunchBase) and now in ‘closed proof of concept’, Climate X has raised $1.5m in a pre-seed funding round led by Pale Blue Dot, with Blue Wire Capital, A100x and Possibilian also participating along with angel investors. The product is due for release at the end of this year.

This is a bold and ambitious quest for co-founders Lukky Ahmed (CEO) and Kamil Kluza (CPO). Ahmed’s background is in valuation modelling, while Kluza’s is in financial services risk management, and is “no stranger to backpacking, sailing and a good bottle of red”. They are supported by Geospatial Modelling Lead, Dr Claire Burke, who “came from outer space to save the world from climate change”, along with a Flood Hydrologist (“happy to be joining a team where cheese is taken so seriously”) and a Geohazards Specialist (“loves scaling tall mountains.”).

Too much whimsical oversharing, I feel, for a what I assume is a serious – and I hope, successful – attempt to address a pressing global problem.
