Healthtech startup Lenus Health gets funding boost from ResMed

Lenus Health logoScottish digital health start-up Lenus Health is celebrating having closed an initial seed investment from US-based medtech, ResMed Inc, to help it scale in the UK and internationally. The investment represents a significant milestone for Lenus Health, which was only recently spun-out from Edinburgh-based digital transformation consultancy Storm ID. It’s also an interesting move for ResMed - known for its medical devices for sleep apnea and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – which is taking a minority stake in the innovative health-tech rather than acquiring it.

The appeal of Lenus Health to ResMed, and the fit between the two businesses, is clear though. The start-up has been developing a platform that combines data from wearable devices and AI to remotely monitor a COPD patient’s wellbeing, predict when their condition may worsen, and enable their care teams to intervene earlier, helping to prevent hospitalisations. The solution, which was funded by NHSx as part of their AI Health and Care Awards, has been shown to reduce COPD emergency admissions by 28% and hospital bed stays per patient per year by 38%. Whilst ResMed is a top-five global producer of hospital-to-home ventilators with remote monitoring capability and is well placed to help Lenus Health accelerate the adoption of its preventative technology both in the NHS and internationally.
