IBM buys 7Summits to strengthen Salesforce charge

IBMIBM has acquired Milwaukee-headquartered Salesforce consultancy, 7Summits.

IBM is a Salesforce Global Strategic Partner and plans to roll 7Summits into its Salesforce business within IBM Global Business Services. Financial terms of the transaction were not made public.

7Summits says the move will enable it to go global with its offerings. Key customers include Harvard University, Mitsubishi Electric, Snowflake, and Boomi.

Salesforce technologies are being used to transform processes into intelligent workflows to accelerate business outcomes. The acquisition will boost IBM's strategy consulting, experience design, and application development capabilities across the Salesforce platform. Going forward, IBM plans more hires, training and certifications to support key growth areas for Salesforce (including Mulesoft, Tableau, and Vlocity). At the same time, IBM will continue to build out complementary capabilities and industry expertise.

IBM is of course on a significant journey, underlined by its strategic split, see IBM and NewCo: The hard work starts here.

Salesforce has been flexing its own acquisition muscle with the December acquisition of collaboration player, Slack, for $27.7bn. The move, which was one of the biggest in the software sector in recent years, brings two rich sets of tech and extensive ecosystems together.
