Lenovo follows HPE and Dell with as-a-service model

lenLenovo has announced at its annual TechWorld conference that it is to offer its entire portfolio thorough its TruScale as-a-service platform.

TruScale launched two-and-half years ago to provide Infrastructure-as-a-Service hpeto customers. In June of this year, Lenovo launched its Device-as-a-Service in the UK, meaning its resale partners can now provision end user devices (such as laptops) via a pay-per-month service.

However, this latest announcement goes much further to include all hardware, software, and services. CEO, Yuanqing Yang, said these separate purchases could now be brought together into an “integrated purchase experience". It will also bring the separate steps of designdell, deployment, and operation services into a “subscription-based all-inclusive model”.

Lenovo is following in the steps of HPE and Dell, both of whom have already announced similar approaches. HPE was first out of the blocks a few years back, with Dell officially launching APEX in May of this year. HPE recently bagged an impressive $2bn deal with the National Security Agency to deliver High Performance Computing as-a-service via its GreenLake platform.
