US-based edtech company IXL Learning (home of brands including the Rosetta Stone language learning software) has acquired UK-based MyTutor online tutoring platform.
Founded in 2013, MyTutor matches learners with university students to offer near-peer connections with subject-matter expertise – providing a roster of over 10,000 tutors, teaching more than 30 subjects across GCSE and A-Level curricula.
As well as providing private personalised learning services to families, the company works with over 1,600 secondary schools in the UK (and has delivered more than 4 million lessons nationwide) – helping them close the gap in education attainment, which recent research by the Education Policy Institute has shown as widening since the pandemic.
MyTutor had previously raised £34.4m in funding over multiple rounds, and the acquisition will enable the company to broaden its offering (across age groups and subjects), and also offer AI-driven lesson plans, exam practice, and automated lesson reports – aligning with the government’s promise of “a digital revolution in schools”.
