Bank of Africa UK has revealed that it is streamlining its core banking operations with the help of Temenos and Oracle. The bank is consolidating its core systems onto a single platform provided by Temenos. The move will also see the bank shift all of its infrastructure onto Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) via a project that is scheduled to complete in late summer 2023.
Bank of Africa UK is a subsidiary of the leading Moroccan bank formerly known as BMCE. The consolidation forms part of the bank’s wider digital transformation programme and will also see it migrate away from other systems and suppliers including, Kondor (treasury trading) from Finastra and Delta-Bank from Delta Informatique (now part of Sopra Steria).
Once the migration is completed the bank’s infrastructure (currently run from a virtual data centre in France) will be based out of Oracle’s London cloud region. According to reports, Oracle’s high availability and cost metrics helped it to secure the deal. Meanwhile, the fact that the region is entirely powered by renewable energy will help the bank to achieve its goal of reducing energy consumption.
The selection of Temenos to provide Bank of Africa UK’s core system requirements followed a careful assessment of the market alternatives. One of the bank’s stated aims was to select a best of breed system whilst simultaneously reducing the number of IT providers it deals with. Whilst Temenos is known as a global leader in the core banking space, the vendor also works closely with a number of African banks and has already supported Bank of Africa’s growth ambitions, in respect of China in particular.
