German HQ’ed tech companies are spearheading a new wave of investment in the UK following the signing of the UK-Germany Bilateral Cooperation Agreement. The landmark agreement, focused on strengthening cross-border collaboration in science, technology, and innovation, has seen several firms announce new commitments to invest in the UK, opening new production facilities and creating jobs for both skilled workers and graduate/apprentice roles.
One of these is Mannheim-based osapiens, which has announced a €35m investment to expand its UK operations, creating more than 150 high-skilled positions. The AI-powered sustainability software provider, which already serves nearly 2,000 companies worldwide through its osapiens HUB platform, counts major UK businesses including BAT, Tesco, and DS Smith amongst its clients. The company's unified platform combines over 25 cloud-based solutions to automate regulatory compliance and enhance operational performance across value chains. The business has been growing at pace, with 42 consecutive months of over 100% yoy growth.
Another is conversational AI startup Cognigy, which has pledged £50m to expand its UK presence, targeting the creation of over 140 high-skilled technology roles by 2027. Backed by £100m in Series C funding led by UK venture capital firms, Cognigy specialises in AI agents for enterprise contact centres. Its platform leverages GenAI, real-time memory, and integrated tools to deliver hyper-personalised customer experiences. Clients include the likes of Adidas, Lidl, Nestlé, and Toyota. Cognigy is also planning a 2026 launch of a UK working student and graduate programme, modelled on its successful German initiative. Cognigy's investment is expected to deliver a £25-30m boost to the UK economy through indirect job creation and supplier engagement.
In addition to the above, Siemens Energy is creating 200 new jobs as well as 100 new apprentices and graduate roles, and German defence tech company, STARK, has announced further investment in the UK, with its first production expansion outside of Germany. The move will create over 100 highly skilled jobs in the UK within the first year, including through STARK’s new 40,000 square feet facility in Swindon. The above announcements follow that of German AI-led defence technology company Helsing which we covered several weeks ago, who will establish a cutting-edge drone submarine factory in Plymouth (See - German AI-led defence firm Helsing brings £350m investment to Plymouth).
