*NEW RESEARCH* Policing Digital Strategy 2025-2030

Policing Digital Strategy 2025-2030 report coverFive years ago, shortly before the first confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in the UK, the Police ICT Company and National Police Technology Council published the National Policing Digital Strategy 2020-2030 (see National Policing Digital Strategy 2020-2030). Much has changed since then, which has prompted the need for a mid-point review.

A refreshed National Policing Digital Strategy 2025-2030 developed by NPCC, Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) working with Police Digital Service (PDS) has been published today. The publication is accompanied by a call for the government to allocate £220m each year over the three-year spending review period to scale up police science and technology capabilities.

National Police Chiefs’ Council Chair Chief Constable Gavin Stephens said: “A decade with very limited capital investment into policing has meant prioritising maintaining existing technology over innovation. The vast majority of police force technology budgets are spent on ageing systems and simply keeping the lights on. This has to change.”

The government has highlighted the transformative potential for digital technology in policing, but with a tight overall spending plan, geopolitical uncertainty and many competing departmental demands, the spending review will require difficult decisions to be made. Police forces—many of which are already facing budget shortfalls—will be waiting nervously for the outcome.

In this report, TechMarketView reviews the new Policing Digital Strategy 2025-2030 publication. It discusses the key changes between this strategy and its predecessor, how it aligns with the government’s police reform plans (see Policing reforms: Implications for tech suppliers), and the likely implications for police technology suppliers.
