London Fire Brigade (LFB) has selected NEC Software Solutions (NECSWS) to provide its new emergency response and mobilising system.
In 2012, LFB awarded a 10-year contract to Capita to supply its mobilising system (Vision) and related services, including an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS). The contract was extended in 2021 and again in 2023, taking it to July 2026. Capita’s Secure Solutions and Services (SSS) business, which supplied this service to LFB, was acquired by NECSWS in 2023 (see NECSWS + SSS: Integration and Innovation).
The new deal, which was awarded following a competitive tender, is valued at £20m. It will see NECSWS introduce new technology intended to make it easier and quicker for the public to contact LFB, including an automatic translation service and the ability to use WhatsApp and other social media platforms. NECSWS will be working with Mitel to integrate the new communication channels into the control room system (see NEC Software Solutions and Mitel announce partnership).
Further enhancements are intended to improve LFB’s response to emergencies across the capital, such as using real-time data analytics to identify the location of multiple calls and link them as a single incident. The system is expected to be ready in 2026.
This contract strengthens NECSWS's ongoing partnership with LFB and reinforces its position in the fire and rescue service (FRS) sector. The deal follows recent contract awards with Network Fire Services Partnership (NFSP), Lincolnshire FRS, Humberside FRS, and the Irish Fire Service.
