If I were awarding prizes to start-ups for their websites alone, I reckon London-based online ‘luxury travel’ agent Luxtripper would probably be top of my list. In my opinion they’ve got everything right in terms of design, ease of use and audience engagement. Indeed, if I wanted book a luxury second honeymoon with Mrs. M. I would certainly check Luxtripper out.
At least Luxtripper is putting its marketing spend to good use, having raised some £750k on crowdfunding site Crowdcube in 2015/6. Incorporated in 2013 and launched in 2015, Luxtripper has recently completed a £1.2m raise from ‘high-net worth individuals (HNWs) and former travel executives’. Total funding now sits at £2.2m including early seed rounds.
But of course now is not a good time for travel companies and I suspect Luxtripper was not able to sustain the reported 100% revenue growth rate in the year to March 2020 (on £7m of sales – I assume gross) for the rest of last year.
But the new backing is a show of investor confidence that one day we will all be traveling again, and some will feel that a luxury break will be a more than well-deserved treat.
