Biotech Sonrai Analytics secures £2.2m seed plus funding

Sonrai logoBelfast-based start-up Sonrai Analytics is set to accelerate the global adoption of its precision medicine platform thanks to a £2.175m ‘seed plus’ funding round led by Forward Partners.

Founded by Queen’s University’s Dr Darragh McArt in 2018, Sonrai Analytics describes itself as ‘an emerging global innovator in AI cloud data analytics’. Get past the buzzwords and its precision medicine platform impresses with its ability to combine multiple types of healthcare data to gain insights into patients’ health, and the potential to accelerate new drug and healthcare developments. For an early-stage business, it has good traction with customers and can count Roche and the NHS as exemplar partners.

Precision medicine is a growth market with huge potential – for suppliers and humanity – and it’s no surprise to see investors keen to back promising biotech startups such as Sonrai, which is firmly in the ‘one to watch’ category.  This latest funding will support Sonrai on the next stage of its growth, with a focus on expanding the customer base in the US, strengthening its sales and marketing capability and expanding its data science and engineering teams.

In addition to new investor Forward Partners, existing institutional investors Techstart Ventures, Co-Fund NI (managed by Clarendon Fund Managers), QUBIS, and Angel Investors also participated in the round.
