*New Research* Digital Marketplace Preliminary Review 2018

Report CoverDespite the claims of the Minister for Implementation, Oliver Dowden, the latest government figures suggest that it is large business not SMEs that are reaping the benefits of the Digital Marketplace frameworks (G-Cloud, Digital Outcomes & Specialists (DOS), and Digital Services).

Evidenced spend for the period 01 January 2018 to 31 July 2018 was £984m, up 45% compared to the same period last year (2017: £678m). However, the proportion of spend via SMEs continues to fall—micro, small and medium sized businesses represented 38% of spending in the first seven months of 2018 compared to 47% in the same period in 2017. Evidenced spend via large businesses was up 65% to £561m (2017: £339m) compared to an increase of 19% to £378m (2017: £318m) for SMEs.

This data-driven report provides preliminary analysis of sales across the Digital Marketplace, including a comparison between SMEs and large businesses, the shift towards DOS, variations between subsectors, the top 20 suppliers in each subsector and the biggest spenders. It follows our full review of 2017’s data in February 2018 (see here) and will be followed by more in depth analysis of spending in 2018 when the final Digital Marketplace data is published early next year.

If you are an existing PublicSectorViews subscriber, you can read the report now. If you'd like to discuss an extension to your existing subscription or would like details of how to subscribe to TechMarketView, please email Deb Seth.

*NEW RESEARCH* Cyber Security Supplier Ranking 2018

*NEW RESEARCH* Cyber Security Supplier Ranking 2018Sales of enterprise cyber security hardware, software and services again outpaced most other areas of the UK SITS market in 2017/2018.

A combination of GDPR-related data privacy compliance assessments and persistent threats from cyber criminals and state-sponsored hackers kept security top of mind. IT departments invested heavily in the products, services and skills they needed to maintain optimum levels of protection against the data loss, unauthorised access and operational disruption which could bring their organisations to their knees.

But the headline double-digit market growth rate masks uneven fortunes as some suppliers enjoyed a stellar year and others saw their security businesses shrink.

Our latest Cyber Security Supplier Ranking 2018 report rates the performance of the Top 20 players by revenue and analyses the differences in strategy and approach that determined their comparative successes during the year.

The report is available for subscribers to SecureConnectViews to download here: Cyber Security Supplier Ranking 2018.

*UKHotViewsExtra* Getronics continues its summer of acquisitions

getGetronics has followed its recent acquisition of US-based Pomeroy (see here) with the purchase of French firm, ITS Overlap. With turnover of €50m, ITS Overlap is a considerably smaller transaction, but nonetheless it enables Getronics to broaden its existing portfolio of offerings and customer base in France. Existing ITS Overlap customers will gain access to Getronics’ (growing) global capabilities.

UKHotViews Premium a subscription for individuals

Acquisitions have formed a significant part of Getronics’ history, and it is almost certain that more are on the cards. We recently spoke to Mark Cook, Getronics Group Vice Chairman, who was instrumental in closing the Pomeroy deal that transformed Getronics into a $1.3bn business. Cook gave us a bit more background to the deal and the further ambitions of the mid-market specialist, which was sold to its current Brazilian owners almost exactly a year before the Pomeroy deal closed. *NEW RESEARCH* UK Enterprise Software Supplier Ranking Report 2018

Enterprise Software UK Supplier Rankings Report 2018

The 2018 Enterprise Software Supplier Ranking report shows how the winds of digital change are shaping the UK market. A quarter of the Top 20 suppliers experienced revenue decline, while significant change saw HPE drop out of the ranking and Micro Focus enter following its acquisition of HPE Software.

The cost of change was apparent as many suppliers struggled to achieve even low levels of growth but the value of specialist expertise was more pronounced in this shifting and increasingly data dependent market. New entrants and emerging suppliers are coming to market with capabilities that cross the business process boundary and go deeper into data strategy. These developments have the scope to change supplier-to-customer relationships.

Subscribers to TechMarketView's TechSectorViews research stream can read the full analysis of the trials, tribulations and successes of the leading enterprise software suppliers to the UK market and check out up and coming suppliers, in the 2018 edition of the Enterprise Software Supplier Ranking report.

*NEW RESEARCH* UK Application Services Supplier Ranking 2018

Title PAge

Just in case you missed it, this year’s edition of the UK Application Services Supplier Ranking 2018 report is now available. Subscribers to TechMarketView's ESASViews can read the full analysis of who's gaining ground in this c.£14b market, who's falling back, and why.

Lower than anticipated market demand last year led to a starker than usual contrast in performance between the winners and losers in the Application Services (AS) world. Within the 2017 list of Top 20 UK AS suppliers, as many companies saw their revenues increase by 9% or more as witnessed their sales decline. The necessity to take market share to achieve top line growth has become the new normal in this increasingly competitive arena.

Continuing erosion of legacy services expenditure in 2017 was barely offset by increasing customer investment in “the new”. Moving buyer behaviour on to digital execution at scale remains a key challenge for the supply side. As the boundaries are increasingly broken both between adjacent service towers and into non-traditional, digitally-redefined sectors moreover, so AS suppliers must not only extend the breadth of their capabilities, but also widen the focus of their services to remain market relevant.

If you are not yet an ESASViews subscriber, please contact Deb Seth (dseth@techmarketview.com) to find out how you can access this research.

*NEW RESEARCH* Financial Services SITS Supplier Ranking 2018

cover

Not only is the Financial Services sector the most important buyer of Software and IT Services, it is also on the threshold of further major disruption. Many FS enterprises are embarking on significantly more aggressive strategies to digitalise operations, improve customer experience and slash costs. While we don’t expect much net new money to be directed to this epiphany, it will mean a big shift in spending as legacy systems are replaced and as automation revolutionises many processes.

But who are the leading suppliers to the sector today? How big is the gap between the largest players and the next group of would-be leaders?

Interestingly, the top 10 positions in TechMarketView’s annual supplier ranking are occupied by the same companies as last year - but how have their relative positions changed and who actually grew revenue in a tight market?

Several companies lower down the rankings recorded exceptional growth, while others delivered steady progress up the table.

As aspiring companies develop new skills, refresh their partnership strategies and develop deeper customer relationships, they have every chance to move up the ratings. Established players have their work cut out to maintain their positions.

Subscribers to FinancialServicesViews can access our 2018 Financial Services SITS Supplier Ranking report, here. If you want to know who is where in the pecking order and learn how to move your company up the ranking, this report is a must-read.

*NEW RESEARCH* UK BPS Supplier Ranking 2018

BPS ranking cover

There has been a lot of movement among the Top 20 providers of Business Process Services (BPS) in the past year, reflecting the disruption taking place within a market continuing its move away from traditional BPO towards technology-enabled services.

The shift in delivery models away from ‘lift and shift’ BPO towards tech-enabled BPS is accelerating with platform-based BPS winning an increasing share of the business and with vendors putting ever greater emphasis on partnering, acquiring, building and ‘uncovering’ IP. The blurring of the boundaries between BPS and enterprise software and application services is continuing whilst the deployment of maturing Intelligent Automation solutions is delivering even greater market disruption.

Subscribers to TechMarketView's BusinessProcessViews research services can read the full analysis of who's hot and who's not, and why, in our new report UK BPS Supplier Ranking 2018.

*NEW RESEARCH* Clanwilliam Group: Ambitious Plans in Healthcare

Clanwilliam Group logoA short time ago TechMarketView caught up with Howard Beggs, CEO of Dublin-based Clanwilliam Group. After acquiring 14 healthcare businesses in the last four years the business shows no signs of slowing down (quite the opposite), so we wanted to learn more.

From Howard’s first step in healthcare technology with Medicom Medical Solutions in 1995, through the launch of Helix Health in 2007 and the acquisition by Eli Global and the creation of Clanwilliam Health in 2014, the business has seen a huge amount of change. Since being acquired by Eli it has grown rapidly through an acquisition strategy that mirrors the “buy-grow-and-hold” approach of its parent company.

As Clanwilliam’s M&A capability matured we saw six deals completed in 2017, including NHS clinical correspondence and dictation business Medisec Software (see Clanwilliam Group acquires another NHS technology provider). Further deals have been completed in 2018, including NHS predictive analytics provider Informatica Systems (see Clanwilliam Group acquires Informatica Systems).

Clanwilliam’s total investment in new businesses since it was acquired by Eli now totals c.€150m, but it’s not resting on its laurels, in fact we can expect to see it ramp up its acquisition ambitions. PublicSectorViews clients can read more about Clanwilliam’s history, strategy, its approach to acquisitions and what it plans to do next, here: Clanwilliam Group: Ambitious Plans in Healthcare.

*UKHotViewsExtra* UPDATE - SCC benefitting from mid-market digital demand

sccWe caught up with James Rigby to discuss some of the trends around SCC’s UK Services business following the announcement of its annual results to the end of March 2018.

The UK in total hit revenue of £612m in the context of the entire EMEA Group (covering France, Spain and the UK), which achieved record revenue of £1.8bn (+9%) and EBIT of £27.7m (+10%). Services specifically increased 4% to £325m.

SCC’s Services performance in the year mirrors many of its larger counterparts in UK Infrastructure Services. 2017 was incredibly tough with some struggling to find any growth at all - see Infrastructure Services Supplier Ranking 2018. However, like the market itself, growth patterns within SCC vary considerably by type of service. A particular growth hotspot was the firm’s own cloud platforms, which are popular with customers because of the services and security wrap it has created. More.....

*NEW RESEARCH* UK Public Sector SITS Supplier Rankings 2018

Report CoverThis year’s edition of the UK Public Sector SITS Supplier Rankings report is now available. Subscribers to TechMarketView’s PublicSectorViews research stream can read our analysis of how the leading software and IT services (SITS) suppliers have performed in the public sector.

The report updates the Top 20 supplier ranking based on revenues from the latest available financial information (as at end of June 2018). It also contains Top 10 rankings for each of the subsectors we track (central government, local government, health, education, police and defence), as well as providing a snapshot of the ‘ones to watch’ from outside of the ranking tables.

Many major suppliers across multiple subsectors had another tough year operating in a market that continues to transition away from legacy contracts to smaller and shorter deals. Four suppliers in the Top 20 experienced double digit declines this year and just two had double digit growth. Only one supplier made in excess of £1bn from UK public sector SITS in its latest financial year. In central government the continued disaggregation of contracts sees a new name take its place at the top of the ranking.

The report is available for download by PublicSectorViews clients, here: UK Public Sector SITS Supplier Rankings 2018.

*UKHotViewsExtra* Capita profits halve as turnaround plan kicks in

capitaCapita will have been hoping to have used this morning’s half-year results to reassure investors that its turnaround plan remains on track.

Headline financials show underlying revenue, after business exits are stripped out, declining by 4% to £1.98bn (£2.07bn H1 2017) and operating profit to be down 53% to £108.1m (£228.4m H1 2017). All of Capita’s six divisions experienced single digit declines in underlying revenue. However, results were in line with expectations given the high levels of contract attrition and restructuring costs that are flowing through the business.

HV PremiumReturning to sales growth is clearly going to take some time. The order intake for the first half reached £921m largely comprised of contract wins and renewals in Customer Management, Software and Government Services including deals with the BBCFinancial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and Transport for London. However, Capita's order book at the end of H1 stood at £7.7bn compared to £8.2bn at the end of 2017, reflecting a lower order intake, the low levels of bid activity in 2017 and continuing delays in decisions.
