This week, TechMarketView released its annual Market Trends and Forecasts 2023 report for Foundation Service members.
Several months in the making, the report draws on TechMarketView’s unique combination of data and analysis, but also its relationships within the UK market.
We would therefore like to extend a special thanks to the CIOs, CTOs, CEOs, CFOs and their respective teams for their time and invaluable inputs during the research process.
This year’s analysis is FASCINATING. It shows that in 2022 (the last full year of analysis), the market grew at its fastest rate for more than a decade - up 12.2% to £67.7bn. Furthermore, over the course of the next three years, spend on digital products and services will increase from c.56% of the market today to c.72% of the total UK SITS market in 2026.
For those of you that want to get straight to the heart of the data model, go to UK SITS Market Forecasts 2023 (Excel) and get stuck into the numbers to understand how TechMArketView sees the various market segments unfolding.
Market Trends and Forecasts 2023, and its sister report, UK SITS Supplier Rankings 2023, are ONLY available to members of our Foundation Service Programme.

Out today is TechMarketView’s annual and unique take on the suppliers that serve the UK Software and IT Services market.
UK SITS Supplier Rankings 2023, available only to members of our Foundation Service research programme, shows that based on financial data for the last full financial year, we have a new player in the number one position: Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The hyperscaler last year held the number two spot behind TCS, which continued to perform well over the period analysed. However, high double-digit performances from AWS and Accenture alike, mean the Top 3 have been ‘shuffled’.
UK SITS Supplier Rankings 2023 is not just about the largest players in the market. It ‘slices and dices’ supplier data to understand the performance of Top 60 largest players, and takes in many segments of the market. In total, analysts have analysed hundreds of companies.
So who has done well and why? Who is there to be beaten? And who has had a stinker of a year?
UK SITS Supplier Rankings 2023 reflects months of work by our analysts, who have undertaken many conversations with company leaders, and raked through 10Ks, Company House reports, and other account filings to create estimates and analysis that you simply will not find anywhere else.
UK SITS Supplier Rankings 2023 is the sister report to Market Trends and Forecasts 2023. Our Foundation Service clients can read them together to get an unparalleled multi-dimensional view of the UK Software and IT Services scene as it looks today and how it is forecast to evolve in the coming years.

AI offers significant opportunities to address some very real business challenges. However, the explosion of hype around ChatGPT threatens to potentially distract from the progress that is being made in that regard. Similarly, the understandable risks and concern associated with “black box” type AI propositions (where it is almost impossible for the user to evaluate the process), has the potential to tar this whole area of technology with the same brush.
Of course, not all AI is opaque and risk-laden. In fact currently, some of the most persuasive offerings out there are in the field of Explainable AI (or XAI as it is increasingly called). Indeed regulators are increasingly mandating that institutions be able to explain automated decisions that affect their customers.
TechMarketView subscribers, including UKHotViewsPremium customers, can learn more by downloading XAI helps banks avoid the hype and focus on their business challenges. This latest UKHotViewsExtra discusses some of the parallels between AI and the emergence of other potentially transformative technologies and highlights real-world use cases that are emerging from within financial services.
If you do not currently have access to this material and would like to learn more about this or any other of our services, please contact Deb Seth for more infoirmation.

Last night we celebrated UK tech entrepreneurship at the 11th Enterprise Awards dinner in the magnificent Drapers Hall, London. TechMarketView is honoured to be a long-time supporter of the Awards, known as ‘the Oscars for Technology Entrepreneurs’, which was founded by John O’Connell in 2011 to recognise high achievers in the UK technology sector.
The calibre of nominations for the 2023 Awards was as high as ever and the judging panel, which I had the pleasure of chairing, had a very challenging job selecting the finalists and the winners. Many congratulations to all of those shortlisted – it was lovely to see so many of you there last night and share in your celebrations.
And, of course, our particular congratulations to the Award winners, who were:
Green Tech Entrepreneur – Mike Woodhall of Chameleon Technology
Public Sector Entrepreneur – Clare Elford of Clue Software
Social Enterprise Entrepreneur – Chris Quickfall of Cognassist and Hellen Bowey of Alcove
Emerging Entrepreneur – Zandra Moore of Panintelligence
Developing Entrepreneur – Simon Hill of Wazuko
Scaleup Entrepreneur – Nate Burke of Diginius
Enterprise Entrepreneur – Christian Nentwich of Duco
The Judges’ Choice Award 2023 – which recognises a CEO for their success at leading and growing a UK tech company over many years and being a role model for others in the industry - was awarded to Brendan Mooney, CEO of Kainos. Brendan, who coincidentally announced earlier this week that he was completing his term at the helm of Kainos this summer after 22 years as CEO, was a very worthy winner. Under his leadership, the Belfast-based company has continued to go from strength to strength, achieving impressive growth of 20% last year on turnover of some £375m.
In addition to celebrating the success of the UK’s inspiring tech entrepreneurs, the evening raised funds for a WCIT nominated charity supporting disadvantaged children with tech, with the raffle alone raising more than £6,000.
Thank you to all of you that joined us for the evening and gave so generously and congratulations again to all the finalists and award winners!

TechMarketView’s report Greater Manchester Police: Pursuing Productivity Through Digital Transformation is now available.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has faced significant challenges in the process of its digital transformation. Problems associated with the implementation of a new Records Management System (RMS), which was launched in 2019, undermined its operational performance and resulted in widescale media coverage. However, in recent years, GMP has made positive progress, with a fresh approach, new systems successfully implemented and a renewed confidence in the digital strategy across the force.
This report reviews the history of digital transformation at GMP, discussing the troubled iOPS implementation and its impact on the organisation. It looks at the positive progress GMP has made in recent years through a new approach to digital transformation and how this has contributed to His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) removing the force from enhanced monitoring. It also reviews the reasons behind these successes e.g., engaged leadership, industry partnership and a focus on interoperability and user experience.
GMP provides an important case study that will deliver UK police forces and its suppliers with an example of how the pursuit of productivity and innovation in policing can be successfully achieved despite the perceived barriers to digital transformation in the sector (see Police Software & IT Services Suppliers, Trends & Forecasts 2022-25 for more detail on the trends in PoliceTech).
PublicSectorViews suppliers can read Greater Manchester Police: Pursuing Productivity Through Digital Transformation today. If you are not yet a subscriber, or are unsure if your organisation has a corporate subscription, please contact Deb Seth to find out more.

Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the UK software and IT services (SITS) sector declined again in Q1 2023, remaining considerably lower than the peak level of activity seen in 2021 and early 2022. This is according to data from Silverpeak, the mid-market technology specialists that represent European growth businesses in M&A and financing transactions.
There were 83 acquisitions by and 107 sales of UK SITS companies in Q1 2023, compared to 96 and 109 respectively in Q4 2022. This data includes deals announced, as well as those closed. However although these figures represent a drop in activity relative to the pandemic peak in 2021/22, they are in line with pre-Covid deal volumes.
Subscribers to the TechMarketView Foundation Service and UKHotViews Premium can read more by downloading the Q1 2023 edition of IndustryViews Corporate Activity.
