Candidate companies must be privately held, headquartered in the UK (not subsidiaries of foreign firms), and have annual revenues typically under £25m.

Don’t delay – contact Deb now to express your interest.

Offshore suppliers up the stakes in platform-based BPS

Offshore provider platformsTCS/Diligenta’s recent £1.4bn business process services (BPS) win at Friends Life has sharply underscored how important the ‘platform’ has become in winning new UK life and pensions (L&P) BPS contracts (see BanCS platform key to £1.4bn Friends Life deal). From our conversations with suppliers it is clear to us that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Particularly active are the India-based ITS/BPS vendors. Tier one ITS players such as TCS, Wipro, Infosys and Cognizant, and pure play BPS rivals such as Genpact and EXL Service, are all investing heavily in business process platforms (BPPs) to differentiate their offerings and increase the ‘stickiness’ to their customers.

Subscribers to TechMarketView's BusinessProcessViews service can read why they are making these investments, and the implications for the UK BPS market here.

The latest from TechMarketView

TMV LogoThis autumn has been a busy one for TechMarketView culminating in the launch of ESASViews, a specialist research programme focused on the UK Enterprise Software and Application Services marketplace. Angela Eager, Research Director, launched the programme last week with the publication of the Enterprise Software Supplier Landscape 2012 report. The report provides incisive analysis on the leading players in the UK enterprise software market at a time when disruptive forces such as cloud, mobile, consumer and social technologies threaten to fundamentally change the landscape.

In October, we were delighted to welcome Phil Codling to TechMarketView to lead our infrastructure services research. He’s wasted no time getting his teeth into the subject and you can already enjoy his analysis and opinion in UKHotViews and UKHotViewsExtra - see for example his analysis of BT’s Q2 results, BT Global Services: some light from the high street, on UKHotViewsExtra.

Recent highlights from our public sector research team include Georgina O’Toole’s views on the departure over the last few weeks of both the Government CIO, Joe Harley, and his Deputy, Bill McCluggage; and Tola Sargeant’s analysis of the implications of the cancellation of a key NHS procurement in the South of England (see Axing of Community ASCC contract bodes ill for SIs).

Other research highlights include Angela’s analysis of the opportunities that Salesforce is creating for ISVs and SIs – Salesforce.com: surrounding opportunities – and her coverage of HP’s Q4 results, see Software burns brightly within HP. In the business process space, John O’Brien’s in depth coverage of Diligenta’s £1.4b Friends Life business process services contract is well worth a read as he examines a deal that could nudge parent company TCS into the UK SITS top ten (see BanCS platform key to £1.4b Friends Life deal).

Eligible subscribers to TechMarketViews’ research services can already access all the reports and notes mentioned above at their leisure. If you have yet to sign up, our Client Services Manager Deborah Seth will be more than happy to provide you with further details of our subscription packages.

ESASViews Launches

Following the outstanding success of PublicSectorViews (PSV) and BusinessProcessViews (BPV), TechMarketView is proud to launch the third in our series of specialist research programmes, further expanding our in-depth coverage of the UK SITS (software and IT/BP services) scene.

ESASViews will particularly focus on the effects of disruptive forces, such as cloud, mobile, consumer and social technologies, on the suppliers of enterprise software and application services (ESAS) to the UK marketplace. ESASViews will examine the implications for legacy providers, the opportunities for emerging players, what the changes mean for the partner ecosystems that surround the global software giants, and what application services providers are doing to capitalize on the changes.

ES Supplier LandscapeESASViews is debuting with its inaugural report: Enterprise Software Supplier Landscape 2012, which provides incisive analysis on the leading suppliers of enterprise software to the UK market. ESASViews is downloadable now for eligible TechMarketView subscription service clients.

Future ESASViews research will include detailed market sizing and forecasts, supplier analysis, and our outspoken – and often controversial - opinion on critical issues such as why and where application service providers are encroaching into the software market, as well as on cloud and BYOT/mobile/social readiness and progress assessments.

Angela EagerESASViews is produced by TechMarketView research director Angela Eager, who brings two decades of IT market insight and analysis to the programme.

If you’d like to learn more about the trends shaping the UK enterprise software and application services sector, the areas of opportunity, and the keys to success, then please contact Deborah Seth (dseth@techmarketview.com).

HP's software mission

HP logo 2011The software division was one of a few bright spots among HP’s rather dismal Q4 results this week but as it is only a slither (c3%) of HP’s overall business it could not touch the sides of downturns in other areas (see Captain Meg steadies the HP ship). Although software will continue to play an important part in the HP business, it will not become HP’s new ‘knitting’. TechMarketViews subscribers can go to Software burns brightly within HP for further analysis.

Contrasting revenue and costs at Salesforce.com

salesforce.comThe dichotomy between growth and profitability at Salesforce.com is becoming ever more apparent, as indicated by the providers' latest quarterly results (see Still strong at Salesforce.com but headwinds could be increasing). It is not a new trend, so why is this market-leading cloud pure play apparently unwilling to address the issue despite the widespread questions that abound? TechMarketView subscribers can read what we think in Salesforce.com's contrasting revenue/costs situation

UK Government ICT strategy: the 'what' to the 'what ifs'

PSV AV UK Gov SIPAt the end of October, the Cabinet Office published the UK Government ICT Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP), which had previously been scheduled for publication in the summer. Alongside the SIP the department published four sub-strategies focused on Green IT, Cloud Computing, End User Devices, and Capability. We published our initial reaction to the SIP on HotViews

The UK Government ICT strategy, published in March 2011 (see New UK Government IT strategy: for real change or to gather dust), focused on the ‘what’ rather than the ‘how’. The Cabinet Office states that the SIP is moving on from the ‘vision’ to understanding what the real outcomes will be and how they intend to get there.

It is not TechMarketView’s intention to reiterate all aspects of the publications (you can read them for yourself on the Cabinet Office website). However, in our report published today, we analyse the savings predictions; identify the key messages we believe ICT suppliers should heed; and give our view on the key risks to successful implementation. Subscribers to TechMarketView's PublicSectorViews can read more in 'UK Government ICT strategy: the 'what' to the 'what ifs'. If you're not yet a subscriber, please contact Deb Seth to find out how you can access this research.

Big Boost in British Buyers & Sellers

IVMA Q3 2011Last quarter saw the highest number of buyers and sellers in the UK SITS (software and IT services) market for well over four years. There were 103 UK SITS companies sold in Q3, including of course the largest acqusition for quite some time – that of Autonomy by HP.

In the latest edition of IndustryViews M&A, we highlight the more interesting acquisitions involving UK SITS companies, as well as looking at valuation trends across the European SITS marketplace.

TechMarketView Foundation Service clients can download IndustryViews M&A right now! Everybody else can contact Deb Seth (dseth@techmarketview.com) to find out more!
