The ‘accidental’ executives

IVPE Q2 2011A couple of interesting stories in the latest edition of TechMarketView IndustryViews Private Equity. We talk to two top execs who, in different ways, found themselves in roles that weren’t really part of their original career plans.

Centrix Software CEO, Lisa Hammond, takes us through the long and tortuous journey from senior manager at a product reseller to CEO of a software company, and her struggles to get funding (and see Centrix Software flying with angels). Hammond also offers her top tips for start-ups seeking external investment – wise words from one who has been there and done that!

Then we have a chat with industry veteran, Gareth Denley, who recently took over the chair at Essex-based mid-market ERP software firm, Access Technology Group after its MBO (see Lyceum gets access to Access). Denley talks about the attraction of chairing a private-equity owned firm and why it’s different to the role in a public company.

Plus there’s our usual summary of the VC and Private Equity activity in the UK software and IT services market over the last quarter.
